Before the hail : How Hill Tower
How Hill Tower was built by John Aislabie in the early 18th century, whilst the gardens at nearby Studley Royal were being built. It sits on the site of Chapel of Saint Michael de Monte and is a notable landmark, sitting a top a distinctive little hill, and viewable from some distance. This was an early Spring evening, beech tree not yet in leaf, with some incredibly intense light occurring just before the hail fell.
