Peaceful protest against Allerton Park incinerator
Posted on 17th February, 2012
On February 14th a group of peaceful protesters congregated outside Harrogate Borough Council's offices, hoping to make clear the strength of feeling against North Yorkshire County Council's proposed incinerator at Allerton Park. There followed a meeting of the Council's planning committee, where local parish concerns were voiced and the arguments for and against were considered.
Thankfully the arguments against prevailed and the committee voted to object to NYCC's proposals. There's a long way to go but this was a real boost to the campaign and a credit to the strong arguments put forward by those fighting against this nonsensical scheme for handling North Yorkshire's waste.
For me, it was fun to turn my hand to another sort of photography, whilst hoping to play some small part in fighting against something that would endanger our environment, put a blot on the local landscape and that promises to be a financial burden for at least a quarter of a century.
